What is Olive Leaf Extract?

The olive tree (Olea europaea) is a small evergreen tree that is native to the Mediterranean region, but different varieties are now grown in many parts of the world. Olive leaf has been used as a botanical agent for thousands of years in many countries to help overcome a wide variety of health concerns, especially immune system and heart concerns. But only in recent times has a high potency, solvent-free olive extract been available.

How Does Olive Leaf Extract Work?

By interfering with the amino acid processes of pathogenic microbes, olive leaf extract prevents them from reproducing. Some studies suggest that calcium elenolate, a powerful compound in olive leaf extract, can enter virally-infected cells in the body and stop them from replicating. Virus shedding is the process by which viruses reproduce. Calcium elenolate attaches to the cell’s membrane and stops the viruses from multiplying and spreading. Calcium elenolate neutralizes the virus’s production of reverse transcriptase and protease. Without these enzymes, a retrovirus (such as AIDS) cannot alter the RNA of a healthy cell in order to reproduce itself. The virus is stopped cold.

Olive leaf extract may be one of the most important anti-microbials ever discovered, with 6,000 years of use. It is reported to be effective against the whole infection spectrum, including retro-viruses such as HIV (AIDS), STDs and all known herpes viruses. Amazingly, it contains anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic properties.

Why We Do Not Use Standardized Herbal Olive Leaf Extract

Standardized extracts are typically solvent-extracted, often with methylene chloride, a widely used but toxic solvent. Consuming solvent residues (often left behind in the plant material) can have both short and long-term ill health effects, including brain, liver and kidney damage.

Although standardized extracts are designed to concentrate the highest amount of the active ingredient, in the true science of herbology, each herb is seen as an interactive symphony of all its various components-- therefore, there is no one active factor and thus, there is no one active factor to concentrate. Various research studies have shown that standardized extracts are not superior-- and sometimes the solvent extraction process can damage phytonutrients.

The most effective approach is obvious: use "beyond organic" premier quality herbs (i.e. the right species, fed with the best plant nutrients without toxic pesitcides, harvested and stored properly). The active factors naturally present within the plant are already at their highest potency. Why bother to concentrate the so-called active factor from poorly grown plants? You will never be able to achieve the full benefits as the original, premier quality herbs.
